Marawi

Marawi is a war-torn city in Mindanao. The war that took place on May 23, 2017 between the IS forces and the Philippine Government lasted for five months yet caused the destruction of buildings and took away the lives of more than 1,200 people.

On November 9, 2019, Play It Forward PH traveled to Marawi City to distribute toys to 400 children, as well as teach kids badminton and donate rackets, nets and shuttles to them. The group visited two sites, Buganga and Pag-asa where the distributions were carried out.

Tondo

Tondo is located in the city of Manila and is the most densely populated district in the city.  The area has a high criminal record and suffers from extreme poverty. Home to Tondo is the infamous Smokey Mountain, which is a large landfill located in the area, where locals live in and children often scavage for materials to help them with their lives.  The area still remains extremely impoverished and inhabitants live a poor quality of life.

Hapinay

The Play It Forward group gathered 100 toys for the children of the indigenous group called the Batak Tribe of Palawan, Philippines.  Batak is one of about 140 indigenous peoples of the Philippines. They are located in the northeastern portions of Palawan and there are only about 450 Batak remaining according to a 1990 census. Their people are still half-naked up to this day.

This was Play It Forward PH’s first official distribution which took place on October 16, 2019, and it was completed through the help of Dr. Luisa Puyat and her team from ABS-CBN DZMM TLC.
